Things to do on the Big Island

  1. LUAU
    The Kona Village Resort's Legendary Luau has been a tradition for almost 30 years and is the oldest continuously running luau on the Big Island. Held on Friday evenings at 5:00.  A true Polynesian experience, not to be missed. The Island Breeze Luau is considered a “Royal Hawaiian Experience” and is held on the grounds of Kamahameha the Great’s former estate in Kailua-Kona every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5:00.  A favorite of the revue is the exciting and dangerous fire knife dance!
  2. SUBMARINE
    Marvel at Hawaii’s unique underwater paradise aboard the high-tech submarine, Atlantis.  View the unique, fascinating natural coral reefs and their inhabitants in air-conditioned comfort and safety.  Departing every hour from 10 am to 3 PM from the Kailua pier.  (Special price combination with Island Breeze Luau and the Atlantis Submarine for $99.)
  3. KAYAKING
    Above Kohala is a pristine forest that can be seen only from a kayak. Kohala Mountain Kayak Cruise allows visitors to experience first hand the open ditches, elevated flumes and tunnels of the historic irrigation system.  Morning and afternoon cruises depart daily, approximately three hours in duration.  Kayaking experience not necessary.
  4. SNORKELING
    Take a snorkeling cruise on the Fair Wind to beautiful Kealakekua Bay and explore the unique coral reef  in this secluded marine sanctuary.  All snorkel gear and instruction are provided. Both morning and afternoon tours are available departing from Kailua Pier.
  5. WAIPIO VALLEY TOURS
    Explore the lovely and secluded Waipio Valley by 4-wheel drive with Waipio Valley Shuttle.  A 1-1/2 hour tour available Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. You will see spectacular waterfalls and roaming wild
    horses amid the lush rain forest,  and the tour will be narrated with Hawaiian history and legends.  Allow about one hour of driving time from the Kona area.

  6. MAUNA KEA SUMMIT TOURS
    View a breathtaking sunset from the top of Mauna Kea---over 13,796 feet in elevation and one of the most important centers for observational astronomy in the world.  Here the wonders of the heavens are revealed to scientists from around the planet.  Explore the visitors center at 9000’, where your guide takes you on a journey through the constellations with a large telescope directed at some of the most fascinating and exotic objects in the sky.  An 7 hour tour departing afternoons from the Kona area.
  7. WHALE WATCHING TOURS
    See these gentle giants up close and have the opportunity to learn more about these fascinating creatures from Dan McSweeney, a marine mammal expert.  The peak viewing for humpback whales is during the months of November through April, but a variety of whales can be seen in Hawaiian waters at all seasons of the year.  Monday through Saturday at 8 am leaving from the Honokohau Harbor.
  8. HELICOPTER TOURS
    A spectacular way to see the Big Island.  View both the beauty and volcanic fury that created this archipelago with the number one helicopter company, Blue Hawaii.  See the active lava flow as well as deep meandering valleys, hidden waterfalls, and towering ocean cliffs that are inaccessible by foot.  Departing from Hilo.
  9. HIKING
    Hawaii Forest & Trail takes small groups on guided tours to remote, private lands through a magnificent tropical rain forest where stands of giant ferns are home to reclusive native birds and spectacular waterfalls.  Luxury service tours provide everything you’ll need for a comfortable and pleasurable day of exploration.  Half day and full day tours available departing from the Kona area.
  10. HORSEBACK RIDING
    See the beautiful Kona Coast on horseback as you enjoy a leisurely ride to the historic   Captain Cook Monument at  famous Kealakekua Bay.  Swim, snorkel and eat a great  lunch before  riding back up the trail.  A four hour adventure departing daily at 9 am.

VOLCANOES ADVENTURE
