Hawaii Honeymoon Lodging

Quote from Best Places to Stay in Hawaii  "This in one of the more unusual places to stay I have ever seen...If you want a bit of mystery and imagination in your vacation, and little stories lying in wait around every corner, you'll appreciate it here. It's enchanting, rather like you'd expect a hobbit's house to be."

Hobbit House Bed & Breakfast Rates & Area Information

Aloha...welcome to Hobbit House  @ Whalings' Hideaway! Unique adventure is what you will find when you journey up the remote mountain springs trail above the village of Waiohinu near the south end of the Big Island.

"Hobbit House" is located 30-minutes from Volcanoes National Park; 45-minutes from Kona's varied attractions. Closer to home there is whale watching, snorkeling, hiking, golf, historic sightseeing or the green and black sand beaches of the Blue Pacific. Hobbit House is off the beaten path, 1/2 mile up from Highway 11. Our access road was recently paved and no longer requires the rental of a 4x4. However, if you are looking for more of a hidden adventure, they can be rented from the various agencies at Hilo and Kona airports. Not only will a 4x4 get you to green sand beach, but up to the top of Mauna Kea, down to the floor of Waipio Valley and to deserted beaches located at the end of numerous jeep trails. Punalu'u Beach, 10 miles away, is the island's most accessible black sand beach, a great spot to snorkel and a nesting area for endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles. It is also home of the breathtaking Sea Mountain Golf Course. An ancient stone footpath, the King's Trail, can be followed at many nearby points and skirts the coastal areas of most of the island. A journey down to historic South Point (Ka Lae) by way of the one lane paved road allows you to explore the first landing site of the original Polynesians, while a further 2-mile hike (if you didn't rent a 4x4)will bring you to Hawaii's green sand beach, made of volcanic olivine crystals.

Watch humpback whales, dolphins, and endangered sea turtles from the palm studded black sand beaches of Punalu'u. Hike early morning the nature trails of Manuka Refuge seeking elusive glimpses of Hawaii's rare forest songbirds. Carry a picnic lunch to the steep olivine-specked dunes of Hawaii's famous Green Sand Beach. See fisherman hauling catches up the 40'-cliffs or casting throw nets into the swirling surf backwaters. Spend the day in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Kayak, snorkel, golf, or just wander the sleepy villages amidst the monkeypod trees so loved by Mark Twain.

Hobbit House rates are exceptionally reasonable; all rates are single or double occupancy.

The rates includes the 11.42% tax. We are taking at least a three night minimum with advance reservations. A three night deposit by check or money order is required for reservations. Two nights may be reserved if that is all that is available or they immediately precede or follow a confirmed reservation.

Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2009 the nightly rate is $170 with a three night minimum with advance reservations. If two nights are all that are available, the rate is $225 per night.
